Last week we launched a new website for this year’s Asian Film Festival of Dallas. The Festival runs from July 23 – 29 at the Magnolia and Angelika Theatres in Dallas. RD2 is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s festivities!
The AFFD website was a fun one for us to design and develop. The look AFFD had created for all their print materials provided us a nice inspiration for the website’s templates. The films have a lot of rich imagery, and it was great to be able to work with a wealth of photography and information. We also had an interesting design challenge in creating a design for the schedule that could work on both a full page and in an abbreviated form on the home page.
We once again used WordPress to power the entire website. There are a lot of dynamic elements to the website, and WordPress rose to the occasion. We utilized Custom Field Templates to gather all the information about each film, such as runtime, cast, and showtimes. Using WordPress’ custom taxonomies let us set the website up so users can browse films by specific genres, such as Drama, or country of origin, such as Malaysia. We were able to take the custom data associated with each film and repurpose it throughout the website, in the schedule, films list, and home page.
The AFFD team was a delight to work with, and I hope we have the pleasure of working with them again for many festivals to come!
